New DJI Avata 360 Leaks Point to March Launch

The DJI Avata 360
According to recent leaks, the DJI Avata 360 may finally launch next month. The Antigravity A1 is the first drone ever to come with an integrated 360-degree camera, and the Avata 360 will be the second. It looks like it will launch first in China, but will likely be available in the U.S. too—DJI managed to get FCC approval for the 360 just before the agency implemented sweeping restrictions on new foreign-made drones.
New leaks also include pricing, showing that the 360 will start at about $435, with upgrades that include an RC 2 remote for about $575 and a bundle that includes the RC 2 or Goggles N3, three batteries, a carry case, and a charging hub for $825. (These prices were converted from leaked prices in Chinese currency–U.S. prices could be higher.)

New Cinematic Footage from the Antigravity A1
YouTuber Denis Barbas recently put the new Antigravity A1 through its paces, traveling to beautiful locales to see what the drone’s 360 capture can do. The video does a good job showcasing what’s possible with 360 footage, including how reframing in post can change the feel of a flight—and where image quality holds up (or doesn’t) in practical conditions. Take a look to see what the A1 is capable of, and to see Barbas’ beautiful cinematic handiwork in action.

The object was later identified as a party balloon. Use of the laser wasn’t coordinated with the FAA, raising concerns about potential impacts on crewed aircraft, and leading to the sudden airspace closure. At first, the shutdown did not have an official explanation, driving rumors and speculation about why it had been ordered.

In a recent announcement, the FAA says it will be stepping up enforcement against rogue drone pilots. Going forward, the agency will pursue legal action when drone operations endanger the public, violate airspace restrictions, or are conducted in furtherance of another crime. Fines can reach up to $75,000 per violation. In addition to issuing civil penalties, the FAA has the power to suspend or revoke a drone pilot’s Part 107 certificate for flying illegally.
