Skydio Launches a Dock for the X10
BY Zacc Dukowitz
25 September 2024This week Skydio launched the Skydio Dock for X10.
The launch happened during Skydio’s Ascend conference, which took place this year for the second time in a row as a hybrid in-person/virtual event.
Since the X10 can be remotely operated, the dock turns it into a drone-in-a-box solution similar to DJI’s Matrice 30 and Matrice 3D, which are 2-in-1 solutions that come paired with their own docks.
Why Make a Dock for the X10?
The dock makes the X10 a much more powerful tool for inspections and monitoring by removing the need for a person to be present for the drone to collect data.

Skydio already has a dock for its X2 and 2+ drones. The new dock adds the X10 to the list of Skydio drones that can be turned into an automated monitoring solution.
The dock does this by allowing users to remotely charge, house, and extract data from the drone, transforming it from a tool that needs a person to operate it into one that can be operated without anyone present (assuming you have the regulatory approval for that, of course).
Specs for the X10 Dock
The X10 is by far Skydio’s most advanced drone.
It’s already on the Pentagon’s Blue UAS list, and the addition of the dock will make it even more valuable for enterprise users.
Here are the X10 Dock’s key specs:
- Operating range. Unlimited with 5G connectivity.
- Time to get airborne. Just 20 seconds.
- Operating temperature range. -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C).
- Wind and weather resistance. Tested against winds up to 160 mph, can withstand intense rainstorms (though it doesn’t have an official IP rating that we can tell).
- Autonomy. Supports autonomous missions and on-demand remote piloting.
- Climate control. Comes with an HVAC system to maintain safe drone operating temperature.
BVLOS and Limitless Range
Looking toward the future when the FAA’s Part 108 BVLOS rule—which the FAA will release for public comment by the end of this year—is in effect, Skydio has equipped its new dock with several BVLOS features.
These include:
- Built-in weather sensors
- ADS-B In receiver
- Inputs for radar systems
- Embedded cameras for remote pre-flight inspections
- 5G connectivity for beyond line-of-sight operations, potentially having a big impact on how far you can fly your X10

According to Skydio, the X10 Dock can provide limitless range by offering:
- Starlink connectivity—to support missions in the most remote locations.
- Skydio Connect Access Point—to maximize the drone’s point-to-point operational range.
- Skydio Connect Fusion—to let drones instantly switch between a point-to-point connection with the dock and 5G connection for unlimited range.
