Consumer Drones Are Having a Moment—The Top Non-DJI Drones You Can Buy Right Now
BY Zacc Dukowitz
10 September 2025DJI has dominated the consumer drone market for a very long time.
And any company that tried to compete ultimately lost or gave up. Skydio exited the consumer market in 2023, Parrot has quietly pivoted to enterprise sales, and GoPro, SnapChat, and 3DR all failed to launch real competition against DJI.
But right now there are actually a lot of really solid alternatives to DJI.
In fact, it seems like consumer drones are having a moment. We can’t remember another time when there were so many high-quality, not to mention just plain interesting, non-DJI drones on the market.
Let’s take a closer look at five of the top ones.
1. Antigravity A1
Insta360’s Antigravity A1 is the first drone built from the ground up around a native 360° camera system, capturing full-sphere 8K video without the need for external attachments or post-production stitching.
The A1 360 drone introduces a new way to fly and film, where the drone’s flight direction is independent from the camera’s view, offering immersive and creative storytelling possibilities. This FPV-style drone also features an intuitive Grip Controller that simplifies flight with point-and-fly motion controls.
Key specs for the A1:
- Camera. Dual-lens 8K 360° video capture at up to 60 fps, with top and bottom cameras that make the drone itself invisible in footage
- Weight. Sub-249g weight, avoiding FAA registration for recreational use in many countries
- Flight time. Up to 29 minutes per battery
- Transmission range. Up to 4.35 miles (7 km)
- Obstacle avoidance. Dedicated forward and downward obstacle avoidance sensors
- Easy to fly. Unique Grip Controller for motion-based intuitive flight controls and optional 360° Vision FPV goggles
- Unique payload detection system. Prevents misuse and ensures safety (i.e., you can’t attach a bomb to it, or some other random payload)

What Does the Future Hold?
Right now, it’s almost impossible to buy a DJI drone.
Could this be part of the reason other companies are breaking onto the scene? We’re sure it doesn’t hurt.
But it could also just be that other drone companies are finding new, fresh ideas, and would have clawed out their own market share regardless of DJI’s struggles in the U.S.
Dreame, a robot vacuum maker in China, recently announced plans to make a consumer drone. And Insta360 recently launched Antigravity, a new drone brand targeting creative users seeking alternatives to traditional drones, which will probably put out more drones as it grows.
Not to mention Zero Zero Robotics, which makes 3 of the 5 drones listed above (Zero Zero owns HoverAir).
These companies are presenting new visions for the future—and right now, that future looks pretty bright.
