Biggest Mavic 3 Leak Yet—Specs and Launch Date Revealed for the DJI Mavic 3

For over a year we’ve been hearing rumors that DJI was working on a Mavic 3.

When the leaks first started they were pretty vague, and for a while it wasn’t clear whether there really would ever be a third generation of DJI’s popular Mavic series.

But the leaks have gotten better and better over the last several months. And now, with the latest revelations, it seems clear that the Mavic 3 is definitely coming—and soon.

Specs & Details for the DJI Mavic 3

A lot of the news about the Mavic 3 has come from Twitter.

Both @OsitaLV and @JasperEllens have become reliable drone industry sources, and they’ve shared some big leaks over the last week or so. (Jasper was one of our main sources for last week’s article covering leaked information on three new Autel drones.)

Here’s what we know so far about the forthcoming DJI Mavic 3:

  • Weight—2 pounds (920 grams)
  • Flight time—46 minutes
  • Flight range—up to 9.3 miles
  • Speed—15.5 mph (with no wind)
  • Obstacle avoidance—angled forward obstacle avoidance sensors to provide a greater field of view
  • Camera details—5.2K video / 20MP photos
  • Camera types—both a wide-angle and a telephoto camera

Here’s what we know about the two cameras that will come with the Mavic 3:

  • Wide-angle camera—focus from 1 meter; 84° field of view; f/2.8 aperture – f/11 aperture
  • Telephoto camera—focus from 3 meters; 15° field of view, f/4.4 aperture

Other features expected to come with the Mavic 3 include:

  • Intelligent Flight Modes
  • QuickShot
  • Panorama
  • HyperLapse
  • ActiveTrack
  • Advanced Pilot Assistance

One thing to note about the Mavic 3 is that it looks like there will be two versions—a standard model and a Cine model.

The standard model will follow the specs shared above, while the Cine model will also come with an ultra high-speed data cable capable of supporting data transfers at 1 GigaByte per Second (Gbps) and an internal Solid-State Drive (SSD) to support the huge amounts of data drone videographers deal with on a daily basis.

New Smart Controller

It also looks like DJI will also be releasing a new smart controller, called the RC Pro, which will be available only with the Mavic 3 Cine Premium Combo.

Here’s what we know about the new RC Pro controller:

  • Screen resolution—1920 x 1080 pixels with 1000 CD /m2 high brightness
  • Screen size—5.5″
  • Video transmission—comes with OcuSync 3.0, with an range of a little over 9 miles
  • Connectivity—WiFi or LTE dongle
  • Customizability—will come with buttons you can customize

What Will It Cost and When Can I Buy It?

We’ve seen some conflicting information out there about pricing.

According to DroneDJ, the standard Mavic 3 will sell for around $1,600 and the Mavic 3 Cine will sell for around $2,500.

These prices seem a little low to us (or at least the standard price does), since the Mavic 2 Pro is currently priced at $1,599 on the DJI site. That being said, DJI has announced that it’s no longer making the Mavic 2 Pro, which seems to have driven its price up on sites like Amazon—so it could be that DJI is just wanting to price match the new one with the old.

On the other hand, Jasper Ellens of 27 Leaks has said the pricing will be higher, and look like this:

  • DJI Mavic 3 (standard)—$2,495 (2150 EUR)
  • DJI Mavic 3 (standard) Fly more combo—$3,365 (2900 EUR)
  • DJI Mavic 3 Cine—$5,569 (4800 EUR)

The good news is we won’t have to wait all that long to get the actual price. According to Jasper Ellens, the DJI Mavic 3 will hit the shelves on November 15.
