BY Alan Perlman14 October 2015
Hexo+ Drone is the first autonomous flying system, and it’s getting very close to shipping; it’s scheduled to be available in October.
Some footage from Xavier De Le Rue in Alaska:
The project started off as a Kickstarter campaign, raised over $1.3m USD and funded by more than 2,000 backers from across the world. It was so successful that it ranked in the top 20 most successful Kickstarter campaigns.
The Hexo+ received rave reviews at CES 2015, winning best Drone of CES by Videomaker and Best of CES by iPhoneLife and Showstopper.
The Hexo+ is capable of auto-following and auto-filming the subject, and can be controlled using gestures on a smartphone. Simply give it one of a number of simple commands, this autonomous and hands-free drone will follow your command and you will be able to film yourself while you are snowboarding, skiing, surfing, skateboarding or doing any other kind of sports.
The Hexo+ does not come with a camera included, but instead has a 3D gimbal with GoPro Mount so you can use your own GoPro.
The drone can soar the skies at a height of over 200 feet, boast a flying time of 15 minutes, with a maximum speed of 70Kmh (40Mph). The drone is equipped with emergency landing and return-to-home system to solve the issue of lost drone, losing the GPS signal, or batteries running out on your phone or the drone itself.
The Hexo+ is available for pre-order for $1349 USD (a 10% discount), and you may receive it before Christmas if you order it now. The kit includes a 3D gimbal with GoPro mount and the HEXO+ App (iOS and Android).
